Letters Patent of 21 November 2008
To all to whom these Presents shall come, or whom the same may in any way concern, We, Maximilian, King of Æfira and of Our other Realms and Territories, send Greeting!
Whereas We are desirous that there should be established a learned Society for the advancement and promotion of the geographic and geologic sciences:
Know ye that We of Our special grace do by these Presents grant, direct and ordain as follows:
There shall be a learned Society by the name and style of “The Royal Geographical Society”.
The Society shall work to promote geographical and geological research, to advance geographical and geological knowledge, to foster public understanding and enjoyment of geography, and to advise Ourself and Our Government on matters relating to geography and geology.
The Society shall have and use a Common Seal for its affairs and business, and shall at its will and pleasure break, change, alter or make anew the said Common Seal.
The Society shall elect such persons to be Fellows of the Society as it shall think fit and proper.
The Society shall elect from among its Fellows a President, who shall represent the Society to the public, take charge of its finances and perform such other functions and duties as the Society shall confer upon him or her.
The Society shall elect such officers as it shall think fit and proper, who shall perform such functions and duties as the Society shall confer upon them.
Our most loyal and noble Subject and trusty Counsellor John Preacher, Duke of Zavat, Earl of Goru and Duvonak and Baron Salku, and Our most loyal, noble and learned Subject and trusty Counsellor Ilana Walder-Biesanz, Countess of Ranell, shall be Fellows of the Society, and the said John Preacher shall be the first President of the Society, until the first General Meeting shall be held in pursuance of these presents.
There shall be held, not less frequently than once per year, a General Meeting of the Fellows of the Society, for the making of by-laws, rules and ordinances for the government of the Society, and the election of new Fellows and of the President, and for the transaction of such other business as the Society shall think necessary, and the President of the Society shall preside over proceedings at all such General Meetings.
The Society shall from time to time publish a journal of research in the fields of geography and geology and such other scientific research as it shall think fit and proper.
The Fellows of the Society shall form a body politic and corporate by the name and style of “The Royal Geographical Society”, with full power and capacity in such name to sue and be sued, to own, purchase and sell property, and to do all other acts which bodies politic and corporate may by law or custom do.
Witness Ourself at Our City of Riverdale this twenty-first day of November in the year of Our Reign the second, the year of the Kingdom of Æfira the second and the year of the Christian era the two thousand and eighth.
