Freedom of Information
Under the Freedom of Information Act 2008, all Æfiran citizens have the right to access information held by government departments and other public bodies.
His Majesty’s Stationery Office publishes most official documents online – this includes statutes, court judgements, parliamentary journals, royal proclamations, and government reports and policy proposals. You are encouraged to look for the information you need at hmso.aefira.net.
If the information you want has not been published, or you can’t find it online, you can write directly to the government office that holds it. If you don’t know what department has the information, please contact H.M.S.O. All public offices are required to provide assistance to anyone making a Freedom of Information Act request, and you are legally entitled to a response within three working days. Be sure you provide a means of contacting you (preferably by e-mail or the Royal Postal Service, if possible, or otherwise by post or telephone).
Be aware that some categories of information are exempt from the Freedom of Information Act 2008:
- Personal communications and private personal data.
- Documents filed with a court in the course of a lawsuit.
- Confidential information received from foreign states.
- Information which, if made public, would jeopardize foreign relations or national security, or interfere with the criminal-justice system.
