Weights and Measures Act 2022

An Act to fix the standards of weights and measures; and for related purposes.

Be it enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1.  Standard units of measurement

The International System of Units, as established and maintained by the General Conference on Weights and Measures, is the standard system of units of measurement in Æfira.

2.  Acceptable units of measurement

(1)  The units defined in the Schedule are acceptable units of measurement for the purposes set out in column 3 thereof.
(2)  The week, the month, the year and other commonly used calendar periods are acceptable units of measurement of time.
(3)  His Majesty may by Order in Council designate additional acceptable units of measurement.

3.  Use of units of measurement in trade

(1)  Except as provided in subsection (2), any expression of quantity for the purposes of commerce or trade shall be made using standard or acceptable units of measurement.
(2)  Such an expression (the “standard expression”) may be accompanied by an equivalent expression using other units of measurement, if the standard expression is not less prominent than the equivalent expression.
(3)  In this section, “quantity” means any quantity capable of being expressed using standard or acceptable units of measurement.
(4)  A person who contravenes this section is guilty of a misdemeanor.

4.  Commencement and short title

(1)  This Act enters into force on 1 October 2022.
(2)  This Act may be cited as the Weights and Measures Act 2022.
