Flags Act 2013

An Act to make provision with regard to the national flag, ensigns and arms of Æfira and to the use of flags at sea.

Be it enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1.  The national arms

The national arms of Æfira are argent a fret azure. Every Æfiran citizen is entitled to use these arms to represent the nation or his or her nationality.

2.  The national flag

The national flag of Æfira is a banner of the national arms, as depicted in the Schedule, and having the proportions described therein. Every Æfiran citizen is entitled to fly the national flag on land, and every Æfiran ship is entitled to fly it as a jack.

3.  The civil ensign

The civil ensign of Æfira is red with a canton of the national flag, as depicted in the Schedule, and having the proportions described therein. Subject to any directions under section 4, every Æfiran ship is entitled to fly the civil ensign.

4.  Additional flags and ensigns

His Majesty may by Order in Council establish additional flags and ensigns, and may direct that certain ships or classes of ships be entitled to fly ensigns other than the civil ensign; but every such ensign shall have a canton of the national flag.

5.  Use of flags at sea

His Majesty may by Order in Council make regulations concerning the use of flags and ensigns by Æfiran ships and by foreign ships in Æfiran ports and territorial waters. The master of any ship failing to comply with such regulations is guilty of a misdemeanor.

6.  Repeal

The Flags Act 2009 is repealed.

7.  Short title

This Act may be cited as the Flags Act 2013.
