Electronic Communication Act 2009

An Act to provide for the transaction of the business of the State by electronic means.

Whereas a number of citizens are or may be unable to be personally present on a regular basis to assemble in Parliament and transact the business of the State, and whereas it is therefore necessary to provide for that business to be transacted remotely, and whereas it is desired to utilize appropriate technologies for this purpose:

Be it therefore enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:

1.  It shall be lawful for the Parliament, or either House thereof, or any court of law, to utilize such methods of electronic communication or telecommunication as it sees fit to meet and transact business.
2.  No body shall so utilize any such method to which any of its members or any party to its proceedings does not have access.
3.  Every member of any body which intends to so meet and transact business, and every party to its proceedings, shall be notified of such meeting not less than forty-eight hours prior to its intended commencement.
4.  This Act may be cited as the Electronic Communication Act 2009.
