An Act to Provide for the Succession to the Crown.

Be it enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords and Commons in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
[1] On the fifth day following the demise of the Crown, an election shall be held to select a Sovereign; and the Crown and Throne of the Kingdom of Æfira, and of the Dominions and Territories thereunto belonging, and the Royal state and dignity of the said Realms, and all honors, styles, titles, prerogatives, powers, authorities, immunities and rights belonging and appertaining to the same, shall descend and belong by right to the Sovereign thereby elected for the remainder of the life of the same.
[2] The Secretary of State for Elections shall be responsible for the management and oversight of the election of the Sovereign, but if that office should be vacant upon the demise of the Crown, the aforementioned duty shall fall to the Lord High Chancellor.
[3] On the day of the aforementioned election, any citizen of the Kingdom of Æfira may vote by personally delivering a ballot to the Secretary of State. A valid ballot shall comprise a piece of paper, bearing the name of the person for whom the voter wishes to vote and placed in a sealed envelope, but no ballot shall be valid which bears the name of other than a citizen of the Kingdom of Æfira.
[4] Upon delivering his or her ballot to the Secretary of State, and in the presence of the same, each voter shall sign his or her name and write the date upon the back of the envelope containing his or her ballot.
[5] On the day after the aforementioned election, the Secretary of State shall open the ballots and announce the results of the election in the presence of the Lord High Chancellor, the Speaker of the House of Commons, the Lord Chief Justice and any citizens who wish to observe, and he or she shall be elected who shall receive the highest number of votes.
[6] This Act may be cited as the Succession to the Crown Act 2008.
