Parliament Act (Amendment) Act 2008
1 & 2 Max. c. 3
An Act to Make Provision for the Membership of the House of Commons, and for Related Purposes.
[]
Whereas the number of common citizens of the Kingdom of Æfira is presently small, and whereas the election of Members of the House of Commons is therefore impractical, and whereas the Parliament of the Kingdom of Æfira is desirous that, for the better democratic representation of the people, all citizens of the said Kingdom ought to sit in Parliament:
Be it therefore enacted by the King’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Temporal and Spiritual and Commons in Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:
[1] That the House of Commons shall comprise all common citizens of the Kingdom of Æfira, and that no election of Members of the House of Commons shall, under any circumstances, be made.
[2] That, prior to the commencement of a session of Parliament, the Sovereign shall issue writs of summons to the Lords Temporal and Spiritual and to all common citizens, and that upon the naturalization of a new citizen, or the appointment of a new Peer or Lord Spiritual, the Sovereign shall issue a writ of summons to that person.
[3] That, in this Act, the phrase “common citizens” shall refer to all citizens of the Kingdom of Æfira, being neither the Sovereign nor Lords of Parliament, and not serving a sentence for a criminal offense.
[4] That this Act may be cited as the Parliament Act (Amendment) Act 2008.
